Kranthi Mandadi

Kranthi Mandadi was awarded first place prize and a $300 scholarship at the Graduate Student Poster Competition held at the second annual MEPS Fall Symposium, Nov. 6 2008. He works with Dr. McKnight.

Sheetal Rao won the second prize and a $200 scholarship at the Graduate Student Poster Competition held at the second annual MEPS Fall Symposium, Nov. 6 2008. She works with Dr. Binzel.

Hatty Yue Feng won the third prize and a scholarship of $100 at the Graduate Student Poster Competition held at the second annual MEPS Fall Symposium, Nov. 6 2008. She works with Dr. Koiwa.

Sheetal Rao

Sheetal Rao won 3 awards at the graduate student research poster competition during the 2008 Student Research Week held on campus in March. She received 1st prize award as the Taxonomy and Session winner, and an 'Interdisciplinary Research Recognition Award'. She works with Dr. Marla Binzel.

Title of Poster: "Elucidation of mechanisms of salinity tolerance in Zoysia matrella".








Jay Morris

Jay Morris has been selected to receive a Distinguished Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Doctoral Research. This Award will be presented by the Association of Former Students March 27th. Jay is the 1st MEPS student to receive this prestigious Award.



Sheetal Rao

Sheetal Rao received the 3rd place award at the graduate student poster competition during the 2008 Texas A&M AgriLife Conference held in College Station. There were in all 39 graduate students who participated and presented posters at the conference. She works with Dr. Marla Binzel. Title of Poster: "Elucidation of Mechanisms of Salinity Tolerance in Zoysia matrella".



Ivan Ramirez

Ivan Ramirez was awarded first Place Prize at the Graduate Student Poster Competition held at the Fall 2007 MEPS Symposium. He works with Dr. Scott Finlayson. Title of Poster: "Subtle temperature changes promote photomorphogenic-like characteristics in early seedling development".



Sonia Irigoyen Aranda

Sonia Irigoyen Aranda was awarded second Place Prize at the Graduate Student Poster Competition held at the Fall 2007 MEPS Symposium. He works with Dr. Wayne Versaw. Title of Poster: "PHT4 transporters and intracellular distribution of Pi in Arabidopsis thaliana".

Sheetal Rao was awarded Third Place Prize at the Graduate Student Poster Competition held at the Fall 2007 MEPS Symposium. She works with Dr. Marla Binzel. Title of Poster: " Elucidation of mechanisms of salinity tolerance in Zoysia matrella cultivars".






Sheetal Rao was awarded the 1st prize in the Graduate Student Research Competition organized by the Texas Society of Microscopy (TSM) in Denton, Dallas on October 19, 2007. The title of her presentation/talk is "Elucidation of mechanisms of salinity tolerance in Zoysia matrella cultivars".





Sheetal Rao was awarded Third Place Prize at the Student Research Week 2007. Title of Poster: " Effects of Hypobaria (Low Pressure) on the Growth of Arabidopsis thaliana as Determined by Gene Expression and Leaf Anatomy Studies".







Hui Mei

Hui Mei participated in the NSF funded: Arabidopsis 2010: International Research Experience for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows. The program is designed to establish collaborations between U.S. and German functional genomics groups by awarding funds to graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows from NSF-supported U.S. labs engaged in Arabidopsis functional genomics. She visited Prof. Dr. Hans-Ulrich Mösch's lab in Marburg and learned the micromanipulation and dissection of Asci techniques, and made several yeast double mutant strains for her research. Hui is 3rd from the right, bottom row. Hui is a MEPS Ph.D. student working with Dr. Kendal Herschi.

Sheetal Rao

Sheetal Rao, recently received a 3rd place award at the student poster competition held during the Texas A&M Agriculture Conference held in College Station. Over 50 posters from throughout the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences were entered in the competition. Her award winning poster was entitled," Hypobaria Affects Gene Expression of Ethylene Biosynthesis, Rubisco Activase and Selected Stress-Responsive Genes in Arabidopsis thaliana." Sheetal (R) is pictured with Dr. Murano (L), Vice Chancellor and Dean of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University Sheetal is a MEPS Ph.D. student working with Dr. Fred Davies.



Justin Scheiner

Justin Scheiner won first place in the graduate student poster competition, and second in the oral presentation competition, in the Physiology Section of the Beltwide Cotton Conferences held Jan 9-12 in New Orleans LA. The title of his poster was "Physiological Response of Cotton to Application of 1-Methylcyclopropene" and the title of his oral presentation was "Examining the Effects of 1-Methylcyclopropene on cotton lint yield". He was invited to give the same talk to the 2007 Texas and Oklahoma Cotton Physiology and Harvest Aid Study Group. Justin is a MEPS MS student. He is working with Dr. J.T. Cothren.


Emily Hollister

Emily Hollister received the Best Poster Award in Soil Biology and Biochemistry, Soil Science Society of America annual meeting in Indianapolis, Nov. 2006. Her presentation was entitled ‘Land Use and Land Cover Changes in Temperate Savannas: Impact of Woody Encroachment and Prescribed Burning on Soil Carbon Pools and Flux Rates.’ Emily is a MEPS PhD student working with Dr. Boutton.
